The Peaceful Solution
Character Education Program
Parent/Teacher Corner
Peaceful Solution Character Education Incorporated welcomes you to the
Parent/Teacher Corner where we will be providing you with on-going
updated information about The Peaceful
Solution® Character Education Program ( PSCEP). In this issue, we will be presenting a brief
overview of the PSCEP.
Introduction
The Peaceful
Solution® Character Education Program (PSCEP) teaches positive character development
in simple, easy-to-follow lesson plans. The lesson plans are carefully designed so you can
follow this guide to effect maximum learning in your students. Brief explanations of the
lesson outline and suggestions for effective teaching are described below. Download the
sample lesson and review as we go along. Download Lesson Here. This sample lesson is taken from the complete grade appropriate curriculum.
The Teacher's Manual
is a step-by-step guide on how to teach each lesson. Students will have a
workbook/handbook that goes with each lesson. The workbook/handbook consists of activities
which will provide 'hands-on' experience of the concepts taught as well as give students
who learn by doing, an equal opportunity to fully understand the lesson. The Teacher's
Companion book is filled with fun songs, narratives and poems for some of the lower
grades. This is to be used as an additional resource if needed. The songs, poems and
narratives will help keep your students alert and ready to interact with positive
responses.
PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE
The purpose/objective of
the lesson is what you, the teacher, would like your students to learn from the lesson. As
you go through the lesson, always bear in mind what you want the students to learn so you
can focus their minds in the right direction. Once you have established your objective,
that is, what you want your students to learn, you will find it very easy to stay in
control of your class and boost your confidence.
MATERIALS
Materials are
all the things you will need to make your class session go smoothly. In the PSCEP lesson
plans, these are already listed for you. Ensure that you gather these items before you
begin your class. If possible, try them out first to make sure everything is in working
condition.
PROCEDURE
Please read
the entire lesson prior to your presentation. Become very familiar with all the steps and
the main ideas. Be prepared to ask and answer questions about
The Peaceful
Solution® lesson
plan. Reading in advance will give you the foundation of knowledge needed to answer
spontaneous questions as well as confidently steer your students back to the main lesson.
Preparedness is the key. Your students will see your organization and respect you for it.
Here
are some positive behavioral traits to watch for:
·
Spontaneous responses to your questions
· Note taking
· Eye contact
· General alertness
If
you feel your students are lacking in any of these areas, here are some suggestions:
1.
Use animation. Children and adults alike respond very well when their
imaginations are sparked by vivid words and an animated voice.
2. Use the visual aids that are provided in the lesson
3. Build your students' confidence by validating the answers that they
give. Use words like "excellent", "wow", "awesome" and
"great" to describe their responses.
4. Provide one-on-one assistance for any student that needs help.
5. If your objective is not adequately met, use the Additional
Activities found at the end of the lesson to increase understanding.
The Role Of The Teacher
As educators,
it is extremely important that we understand the tremendous role we play in the lives of
our students. Therefore, our participation in this program is essential to its success.
Review the concepts every time a situation arises and not just when the lesson is
presented. As significant influences in the lives of our students, we can lay the
foundation to help them build strong positive character.
There is a
solution to the problems in today's society. The PSCEP has provided you with the necessary
tools to make a difference to our children by instilling in them the values and morals
they will need for a lifetime.
